This one has it all: a triple serving of melodrama, romance, comedy, fistfights, car chases, miracles – and truly splendid and euphoric musical numbers.
Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan star as the titular brothers who were lost after their impoverished parents (Pran Sikand, Nirupa Roy) were vindictively attacked by a ruthless gangster (Jeevan Dhar), then raised separately as orphans.
Twenty-two years later they are reunited for a series of adventures – unaware that they’re related and their parents are still alive. Bachchan is wonderful playing against type in a comic role as a lapsed Christian bar owner and tough guy. The film’s themes of religious and cultural unity are more relevant and moving than ever.
