Bonegilla – The Migrant’s Journey has played to sold-out venues across Australia, resonating deeply with audiences of all backgrounds.
Bonegilla – The Migrant’s Journey presents first-hand interviews with post-war migrants from across Europe, alongside their photographs, home movies and personal documents.
After World War II, millions of displaced people searched for safety, opportunity and a fresh start. Australia opened its doors, welcoming boatloads of refugees who would go on to shape the nation.
This deeply human production traces their lives during the war, the decisions that led them to leave everything behind, their long sea voyages to the other side of the world, and their arrival in a country they knew nothing about. It explores life in spartan migrant camps such as Bonegilla, and the eventual acceptance of Australia as their new home.
