Drawn to Nature Workshop
Drawn to Nature is an immersive drawing workshop that invites participants to slow down, observe closely, and connect with the living world around them.
Through guided exploration of local plant species, participants learn how botanical forms, textures, and structures can reveal a hidden world that enriches the drawing experience.
Using simple identification techniques, we look at how leaves, seed pods, stems, and patterns in nature can become catalysts for creative interpretation and visual storytelling.
Led by artist and educator Patrick Shirvington, whose interdisciplinary practice spans works on paper, large‑scale painting, installation, artist books, and internationally published children’s books, the workshop emphasises drawing as a mode of discovery and perception. Shirvington has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally, with work held in major public and private collections including the Kedumba Drawing Collection, the State Library of New South Wales, Bundanon, the Adelaide Perry Collection and Macquarie University. His approach encourages participants to engage deeply with the natural environment, using attentive observation to transform botanical detail into expressive, imaginative drawings.
